Emilliano stopped by with a bag full of wine, literally a travel size rolling bag full of wine. He is the Italian specialist for Kobrand and
covers a vast territory. Consequently he shows a lot of wine in a single visit. The Kobrand portfolio contains Sassacaia and Tiganello and various other highly recognizable collectibles.
They also supply some excellent daily drinkers which are mostly seen on restaurant wine lists and which often get overlooked. Today's focus is a white and a red, both under $20.00 , which we think are exceptional daily drinkers. Not everything really good needs to be really expensive - particularly on a Monday
All of the very best, Rex and Michele
The White; 2014 Masi Levarie Soave Classico
This Soave is made predominately of Trebbiano from hillside
vineyards with morning sun exposure. Though crisp and refreshing as one would expect from top notch Trebbiano, this one has a very rich middle palate. Anjou pear combines with just the right amount of lemon zest and subtle orange blossoms which build through the finish. This Soave is certainly a great compliment to shell fish or salad, but don't hesitate serve it with poultry or pork. The flavor profile seems perfect for veal scallopini with lemon, capers and butter. $17.50
The Red; 2012 Masi Campofiorin
Campofiorin is made of both fresh and Ripasso style Veronese grapes. The fruit comes from the same old vines which supply Masi's extremely expensive Amarones. There are raspberry components and dark plums and a long finish enriched by spice and white pepper. This red is technically of medium body yet it is very rich in in flavor and length. Four years in the bottle has silkened this wine nicely. The Campofiorin is a tremendous food wine, perfect for steaks or ribs, pork roast or pizza. The price is perfect for a Monday $15.95 this offer.
The proof is always in the glass!
