Agricola Punica Montessu Isola dei Nuraghi IGT 2013
We have great pricing on a very cool Italian Red from the area of Sardinia. The wine is 2013 Montessu . This wine is a blend of Carignano, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.
The flavor profile is bright in raspberry and plum flavors, all the while laced with forest and black pepper. Very multidimensional, this wine is a definite pairing with steak, lamb and various roasts, particularly pork shoulder. Emilliano Monchiero, the Kobrand Italian Som gave us another deep deal. This wine is now $26.00. Previously that was the wholesale.
All of the very best, Rex and Michele
91 Points- A Mediterranean wine
Floral scents and bright red berry flavors give this carignan-based blend a bright and lifted appeal, with notes of bay leaf, tobacco and peppery spice that mark it as a Mediterranean wine. Dark mineral notes cool the lasting finish. - Wine & Spirits -June 01, 2016 - Joshua Greene 91 POINTS
91 Points - Impeccably balanced wine
Juicy blueberry and red cherry flavors are lifted by zippy mineral and spice notes, showing excellent clarity and cut. Turns sweeter with air, delivering superb energy and focus on the very smooth, long finish. I quite liked this very precise, impeccably balanced wine. - VinousMedia.com January 01, 2016 - Ian d'Agata
NOTES ABOUT THE REGION:
Montessu comes from Sulcis Iglesiente, a region within southwest Sardinia whose brown earth has sandy soil that is a mixture of clay and limestone. This combines with warm, well-exposed terrain to form ideal conditions to produce great red wines. The blend's predominant grape is Carignano, a Spanish variety found throughout the area which gives Montessu soft, elegant tannins and high pH. Exceptional wine growing conditions are also ideal for the International varieties Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, which has recently been planted. Low base production per area (0.6 millimeters) and the climate conditions favor optimal phenolic maturation. The final blend for Montessu is a mix of grapes balanced for the best results in the specific conditions of each harvest.
The proof is always in the glass!
