2011 Sansilvestro Barbaresco D.O.C.G. Magno
We tasted the 2011 Sansilvestro Barbaresco yesterday. We were tasting with an Austin Distributor who had sent us their portfolio and asked us to select wines we would like to consider. We did not have high hopes for the Sansilvestro. We could find no reviews and it is very inexpensive as compared to most Barbaresco, but for the same reason we needed to give it a try. The wine is exceptional. The tannins are soft. The nose is cherry and violets with hints of ash. The Sansilvestro is an easy drink. There is nothing harsh and
zero funk, just dusty cherry and raspberry with plenty of spice and hints of rich soil. This is a very pleasing bottle, easily elegant enough to be served without food. Having said that it is one of those wines which shows deeper dimensions and even more layers with a meal. We tried it with ripe and sharp cheeses and various Italian cold cuts. The pairing was so enticing that the rep had to kindly ask me (Rex) if I would mind leaving a taste for one Restaurant she would be visiting. Had she not said that I would have probably finished the bottle. Here is the best part, this wine was directly imported by the distributor. That means an entire tier of mark-up was avoided.
We can offer the Sansilvestro at $38.50 per 10% OFF 6+
There are 56 bottles available. It is drinking exceptionally now, but will easily cellar another 10 years.
All of the very best, Rex and Michele
