Monday we received a few bottles from importer Craig Baker. Included in those was the 2016 Gerard Seguin Chambolle Musigny Derriere le Four. The Chambolle we opened immediately. It was immediately impressive. The nose is filled with violets and wild berries.
The flavor profile is dark cherry mixed with raspberry. The finish is spiced with white pepper and dark chocolate. Michele pointed out that it reminded her of the 2009 Capitain Gagnerot Corton les Lollieres
Grand Cru and I completely agree.
(one of my all time favorite wines, ever!! So that means I love it! M)
Tuesday, having saved not quite half the bottle by only sticking the cork back in, we took it, along with a variety of other bottles to the BYOB, Mr Wok, a few of us were having dinner. Included was Len Musgrove, author of the Wine Bargain Sleuth who we taste with when ever possible. The Seguin Chambolle which was rich and multi layered the first day open,
was even richer the next day, showing more layers and the finish developed even brighter components than 24 hours before. This is an amazing Burgundy. I did not tell either Len or Michael Byington before tasting, that this Pinot had been open for two days. They were amazed at the structure and depth of fruit. We all thought the Chambolle was the hit of the evening. 2016 is an exceptional vintage. Production though was down by more than half. Hail hit the region during flowering, diminishing the amount of fruit produced, but increasing the extraction and depth of what was left which lends this vintage to some highly complex, beautiful Pinot Noirs. You can enjoy this one now or in 10 years.

2015 Long Shadows "Feather" Columbia Valley Cabernet
97 points Jeb Dunnuck
The 2015 Feather Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that was brought up in 90% new French oak barrels. Its inky purple color is followed by a seamless, pure, impeccable balanced Cabernet that has loads of currants, scorched earth, graphite, and espresso aromas and flavors. Deep, rich, gorgeously pure and polished, with building tannin, it's a heavenly Cabernet Sauvignon that has everything you could want. It's the finest vintage to date of this cuvée and is capable of lasting for 20-25 years. (4/2018)
96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Feather is lovely, unfurling in the glass with aromas of cassis, blackberries, petroleum jelly and burning embers. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ripe and powerful, with an expansive attack and an ample core of dark berry fruit, underpinned by a fine-grained, stony chassis of ripe tannins. This wine is made by Howell Mountain veteran Randy Dunn, and its profile - while marked by the torrid 2015 vintage - will be familiar to followers of the wines he produces there. (WK) (6/2018)

2015 San Guido "Sassicaia" Bolgheri
average price is $220
Collector Alert; late summer is when expensive collectable wines which are allocated to restaurants build up in quantity consequently the collector finds blue chips far below normal value. Simply put Sassicaia is one of the most legendary Cabernet in the world.
85 % Cabernet Sauvignon 15 % Cabernet Franc.

There are 54 bottles available of 2013 Lamborn Family Howell Mountain Cabernet at $89.50. That is by far the best price on the net. Lamborn is made by Heidi Barrett, the wine maker who put Screaming Eagle on the map. In this case she is working with highly extracted and rich mountain fruit from some of the oldest vines on Howell Mountain. The result is big black and blue fruit with integrated components of volcanic ash. Lamborn is legendary and hard to get. Most of it goes to restaurants or gets sold at the winery. These 54 bottles were locked down for steak houses, but not as much steak gets served when it is over 100 degrees outside nor the wine to go with it.
-2013 is a perfect vintage in Napa and the wines are
getting much harder to find.

Heidi Barett Winemaker
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is the denser of the two wines, but also more structured and tannic. It has notes of pen ink, blackberry, licorice, camphor, and a touch of subtle oak in the background. The wine is full-bodied and ripe with moderate tannin. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon made by Heidi Barrett. I suspect it will last for a good 20-25 years. 93+ points Robert Parker
Heidi Barrett makes this 100% varietal wine, coaxing lovely, fully ripe cherry and cassis notions from the intensely perfumed glass. A sizable tannic structure girds the fruit, adding graphite and tar accents. It finishes on a dried herb note. 92 points Wine Enthusiast
