2012 Cascina Liuzzi "Sil" Barbera d'Asti Superiore NIZZA, ITALY
For those who are not familiar with Barbera, it is a medium bodied red grape. This particular Barbera is from the township of Asti located in the Piedmont appellation of Italy. The qualification " Superiore " is awarded via blind tasting by the government appellation authority to the top 10% of all Barbera submitted. Those Barberas submitted must first meet required conditions of oak and bottle aging. That having been said,we are offering the 2012 Cascina Liuzzi "Sil" Barbera d'Asti Superiore Nizza because it is a truly enticing spring and summer grilling red. The"Sil" is plums and flowers on the nose. The flavor profile is plum which deepens into cherry and then blueberry, all filled with spice. The tannins are velvety and this Barbera is big without being too big for summer grilling. The spice range begins with the exotics with allspice on the front palate and finishes with coco and cinnamin. Barbera is an exceptional compliment to smoked poultry, is elegant enough to serve with salmon and is sensational with ribs be them pork or beef. This is an easy drink! Ready to drink now, easily cellarable for another 5+years. $27.50, 10% on 6. Full offer here.
Last night we had the opportunity to taste the 2013 Giodo Rosso Toscana. The Giodo Rosso is the 250 cases production baby brother to the Giodo Brunello.. The 2013 big brother, Guido Brunello sells for an average price of $250.00 per bottle. Same vineyards, a little less time in oak and bottle, same old vine Sangiovese, same legendary winemaker, but over $200.00 per bottle less cash. By the way, the wine is spectacular. The fruit is electric, this wine pops with bright red and blue fruit, tremendous spice, all very long in mouth feel and all at a very high octave. One can drink acclaimed high dollar wines every day and this little Rosso's purity of fruit and virtually flawless structure will still stand out in your mind. We often explain that wine is a living product. This wine is not simply alive, it is jumping up and down and doing somersaults in and out of the glass. So if you would like to taste a virtually perfect Sangiovese without spending the $250 per, we highly recommend you give this one a try!
- We tasted it with traditional pot roast simmered in red wine, INCREDIBLE.
- Winemaker Carlo Ferrini has made some of the most acclaimed wines in Italian wine history. You will a list of wineries he works with as well as some links at the bottom of the page.
The 2011 Le Ragose Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore is sensational and an extreme value. The quality and complexity ratio to price is off the charts. If you are receiving this offer, you probably are familiar with the Ripasso Method, but just in case....... 2011 Le Ragose Valpolicella Ripasso,

We tasted this Amarone last week and were seriously impressed.
Le Ragose Amarone is produced from estate vineyards sitting above 1200 feet in elevation. Le Ragose is located north of Verona, in the town of Negrar, at the Valpolicella zone's highest point. 2005 Le Ragose Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Martha Galli $117.50 per, 5% off six, 10% off 12, can mix
We would like to mention a Cabernet which we tasted and ordered last month and which arrived yesterday, 2013 Trinite Estate Acaibo, Sonoma Mountain. Claire Lurton who is pictured below, is the proprietor of Chateau Dufort Vivens and Haut Bages Liberal, both classified growth Bordeaux vineyards. Acaibo is their first California venture. They purchased a prized old vine vineyard at the top of the hill in Sonoma and are producing a 56 percent Cabernet, 34 percent Merlot,10 percent Cab Franc which is quickly becoming highly sought after. There is both black and red fruit, complex flowers and spice and an extremely elegant structure. This wine is both vibrant and powerful. They make 750 cases . The vineyard is entirely biodynamic. Michele and I thought it was world class. The 2013 is their second vintage. Winemakers consider 2013 a perfect microclimatic vintage. We also believe this will be a $200 bottle in another release or three. We were allocated 60 bottles, with only 28 bottles remaining. We are offering them at $75 per, 5% off 6, 10% off 12.
2015 Domaine Le Clos Noly Pouilly Fuisse Courtelong
We have been looking for an exceptional Pouilly Fuisse for a while now. Though that would seem easy enough, the Pouillys we generally see in this market are either mass produced negociant wines or of the very expensive variety which is not necessarily what we are looking for when it comes to Pouilly Fuisse. That may be attributed to the French keeping the excellent and reasonably priced stuff around to drink themselves, and indeed 80 percent of Domaine Clos Noly's production is sold to the restaurant community in that immediate area. We believe exceptional Pouilly Fuisse should be indicative of the renowned limestone and clay soils which are found in the best of these village vineyards, Pouilly should be bright and food worthy and amazing Pouilly Fuisse should not break the bank. Saturday night we enjoyed dinner with importer Blake Maso and restauranteur Charles Bruen . A main reason for the gathering was we had been waiting for this Pouilly to arrive. Blake had been talking it up, and the 2015 southern white burgs are amazing, well the Le Clos Noly Pouilly Fuisse Cortelong did not disappoint. ( Chardonnay, un oaked ) read more
